Sheik Ahmeed
As a teenager, Steensland burst onto the stage in the early 1980:s with his bombastic, progressive rock, inspired by bands like Genesis, Rush and King Crimson. With his band Sheik Ahmeed, Steensland earned mythical status locally with some larger-than-life gigs.
The concept was simple: Double everything!
The stage width was doubled, the PA system was double the usual, and while other local bands rarely offered smoke and stage lighting, Sheik Ahmeed boasted — you guessed it — two smoke machines and a light-rig that was way over-capable. Oh, and of course there were two large drumkits on stage a la Genesis.
Sheik Ahmeed Mk1 consisted of Johan Brusell (bass), Jonas Palmqvist (drums), Ulrik Möllevinge (keyboards), and Johan Steensland (vocals and guitar).
Sheik Ahmeed Mk2 consisted of Johan Brusell (bass), Jonas Palmqvist (drums), Ulrik Möllevinge (keyboards), Bengt Kovacs (vocals), and Johan Steensland (guitar).
Shek Ahmeed Mk3 consisted of Johan Brusell (bass), Simon Steensland (drums), Kalle Lindström (keyboards), Johan Åkerman (lead vocals, rythm guitar), and Johan Steensland (guitar and lead vocals).
Sheik Ahmeed Mk4 consisted of Johan Brusell (bass), Simon Steensland (drums), Kalle Lindström (keyboards), Ulrik Möllevinge (guitar), and Johan Steensland (guitar and lead vocals).
